  • THE BEST CAFES

    IN MELBOURNE

The best cafes in Melbourne

Melbourne is known for its excellent coffee and fantastic coffee culture! A decisive reason why I ended up here. No matter where you go: a coffee smells amazing, always looks particularly beautiful and simply tastes incredibly good. Are you a coffee lover? Let’s go to Melbourne!

In the first few weeks I was in a lot of cafes in Melbourne, because I was looking for a waiter job and at the same time I was happy about the luxury of a great coffee with milk foam after my months in Asia. Here you will find my favorite cafes that you should definitely visit.

THE JOURNAL CAFE | 253 Flinders Ln

The Journal Cafe is in the city’s public library. I ran into it randomly when it started to rain. The cafe is perfect if you want to work with your laptop at a cafe in peace. I wrote all my applications here and the WiFi is consistently fast.
There is a selection of snacks and especially delicious cakes every day!

SEEDLING CAFE | 275 Flinders Ln

The Seedling Cafe is a cozy, small place, where you may walk past without noticing on the famous Flinders Lane, as the entrance is a bit hidden. Inside, however, it’s often very crowded because the cafe has made a name for itself with its super delicious snacks and its own signiture-blend coffee. The cafe focuses primarily on healthy eating, gluten-free, milk-free, vegan — you will find everything here. Also what the coffee heart desires: from classic flat white to turmeric latte.

DUKES COFFEE ROASTERS | 247 Flinders Ln

The Cafe Dukes Coffee Roasters offers a great coffee experience with locally roasted coffee beans. Here you can test every exotic coffee that you won’t find in many cafes in Melbourne. Even an iced coffee is simply wonderful fresh, high-quality brewed coffee.
Additional highlight: The fresh cupcakes and cakes round off your cozy visit.

IN A RUSH | 390 Little Collins St

In a Rush this is the very first cafe where I took a break on my first day in Melbourne. And I was instantly flashed by the famous Melbourne coffee. Wow! This place is perfect for breakfast, lunch or a small sweet snack. I particularly like the soups and paninis and the pretty decor with the colorful coffee cups. : D

HASH SPECIALTY COFFEE | 113 Hardware St

For a very special experience, you definitely have to go to Hash Specialty Coffee. You will find a selection of filter coffee and cold brew coffee and especially the famous #HashHotChocolate. This hot chocolate consists of 85% chocolate, which is poured live into a cup “milk-flavored fairy floss”. Looks like cotton candy!

TIGEROUS ESPRESSO | 361 Queen St

The small Cafe Tigerous Espresso belongs to a world champion barista — and that is how the coffee tastes: incredibly delicious! It’s definitely worth getting a coffee here. The cafe didn’t really convince me to sit comfortably. So take a coffee to go and one slice of the delicious banana bread!

FLOVIE FLORIST CAFE | 261-261 Queensberry St

Perfect for all the food bloggers on Instagram: The Flovie Florist Cafe is incredibly beautiful! Depending on the season, the cafe is decorated with the matching color-coordinated flowers. The coffee is a bit more expensive, but it’s definitely worth a visit! Tested and more than enthusiastic: Hot Chocolate Cake and the Signature Rose Tea Latte. Ready for the perfect dose of kitsch and a great taste experience at the same time? Here you go!

BARISTA COURSE IN MELBOURNE

Do you want to learn the secret of Melbourne’s coffee art, work in a cafe or do your own latte art at home?
In Melbourne you can take a barista course! There are basic courses for beginners, in which you will learn the basics of the different types of coffee and how to froth milk properly. I honestly wouldn’t have thought that frothing milk can be so tricky.

If you have experience, there are also advanced courses where you can improve your latte art and end up decorating your coffee with hearts, flowers or swans.

I attended my course near Flinders Street Station and it was so much fun! https://baristacoursemelbourne.com

No matter if you learn to create a nice latte yourself or if you just try a different cafe every day: you will love the coffee in Melbourne!
