    SURVIVE WITH 21kg

My packing list #unproofed

With a 21 kilogram piece of luggage through different climatic zones – this sounds definitely not easy.
My backpack was already filled to the top for 23 days in Bali and has just fallen below the upper limit of the approved weight. After all, I really needed at that time
a fifth of the clothes – so the back pain was almost worth it. That has to be different now. Here you can find my packing list for the next ten months.

BEFORE THE JOURNEY STARTS

  • Passport – check expiration date (mine was at April 2019 – ups)
  • Get an travel insurance
  • Apply for the necessary visa
  • Vaccination (inform yourself early enough – a vaccination marathon with 13 vaccinations in a month is not cool)
  • Make copies of all important documents & and send them to yourself via mail or save them e.g in your dropbox
  • Test your credit cards (!) & note the PIN and the lock numbers
  • International driver’s license (this reasonable goodie costs only 16 euros)

Toiletry Bags & Cosmetics

  • Toothbrush + toothpaste (important: in your carry-on baggage! You are grateful for this after every long-distance flight)
  • Shower gel, shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Brush, hair tie, braces
  • Razor
  • Sunscreen (rather take a little more – e.g. it’s very expensive in Asia)
  • Nailfile
  • Hairspray (vital for some people – I leave it at home, because I travel most countries with a super high humidity)
  • Make-up (“You don’t need it on vacation / on a world tour” – But! Also on a trip around the world, sometimes you just want to look beautiful with some lipstick.)
  • Tampons (hard to get in Asian countries and damn expensive)

Travel pharmacy

  • Plaster
  • Bug spray
  • Painkiller
  • Tablets against nausea
  • Cream against sunburn
  • Malaria prophylaxis

Documents

  • Passport including visa
  • Flight tickets and booking documents (I also print them additionally – any mobile phone can turn out suddenly)
  • Travel insurance documents
  • ID card of vaccinations
  • International driver’s license

TIP: Additionally take the copies of all important documents in your carry-on baggage and save the copies in the cloud / send them via mail etc.

Technology

  • Mobile phone
  • Adapter (best option: one adapter that fits for all countries)
  • Camera (in my case: GoPro), batteries & necessary equipment
  • Laptop
  • 2-3 USB sticks (you never know)
  • Portable charger (your phone/camera should never turn off in important situations)
  • Your everyday chargers (phone, laptop, etc.)
  • Power strip
  • Ebook reader (guidebooks, favorite novels, etc.)

Accommodation

  • Mini travel sleeping bag (Hostel duvet covers are not always amazing)
  • 2 x travel towel (microfiber dries wonderfully fast)
  • Mosquito net (not always necessary – but definitely vital for me)
  • Travel pillow
  • Sunglasses
  • Pocket knife (caution: Not every knife is allowed at the customs)
  • Travel detergent (I leave it at home – shower gel also works)
  • Card game

Clothing

Of course the clothes depend on the countries you are traveling. I travel between – 5 °C and 40 °C.

  • Softshell jacket (easy to combine with an onion look, breathable, wind and water repellent – doesn’t use a lot during monsoon rains but there are sexy rain ponchos in Asia)
  • 1 x Hoodie
  • 1 x warm sweater
  • 7 x T-Shirts
  • 2 x long trousers
  • 2 x short trousers
  • 1 x trousers for chilling / leggins (I always wear them in the plane)
  • Underwear (Important: no you don’t need five bras – I had five with me on Bali three years ago and I wore only one bra once in these 28 days)
  • Socks
  • 1 x Belt
  • 1 x Shoes for long distances/hikes (I don’t like the typical german hiking boots, I take my Dr Martens)
  • 1 x Sneaker
  • 1 x Flip Flops
  • 1 x Bikini
  • 1 x Swimsuit (more practical in water parks, jumping at the cliffs, etc.)
  • Sportswear (if you are in the mood for workouts and want to take a pair of sports pants in addition to the chill pants)
  • Hat
  • Scarf (I take additional a sarong from Bali – great a a beach towel, dress, scarf against air conditioning, etc)

Luggage

  • 1 x Big backpack
  • 1 x Small backpack for day trips
  • 1 x Cloth bag (foldable – also good for dirty hiking boots)
  • 1 x Small handbag (for party evenings)

So, let’s see if the packing list will work well in the next few weeks.

Lots of Love ♥
