    PULAU BESAR

Insider tip honeymoon | Pulau Besar

Have you ever been alone in a honeymoon vacation on a dream island? I tested it. You can definitely do it.
After my week on the Perhentians, the island feeling grabbed me again and I traveled further along the east coast of Malaysia.

Most travelers end up in this area on the island of Tioman. I only went to the port of Mersing and then wanted to book the journey to the island.
When I was looking for a place to stay, I came across a reasonably priced hostel: Dorm Private Island
Private Island – sounds nice. Okay, it is on a different island than planned. But hey it looks pretty and is cheap. Just test it. And so I landed on the island of Pulau Besar and my wonderful honeymoon weekend started.

Pulau Besar | How to get there

The island can be reached by speedboat from the mainland of Mersing Jetty. Since I had an 8-hour drive from the Perhentians behind me, I stayed in Mersing for two nights and got a lot of coffee and cake while editing my blog. #finallywifi
At the port in Mersing there are numerous providers who may first look at you in confusion, because you don’t want to go to Tioman, but then they will be happy to offer you an overpriced ticket to Pulau Besar. It’s best to write the accommodation in advance! You can often find a cheaper option with the help of the staff or they can pick you directly with their own boat. I paid 90 RM (= 20 euros) for the trip (both ways). That is really a lot for a boat transport option in Malaysia. But it was still cheaper than buying a ticket at the port from the providers.

Pulau Besar | Accommodation

When I arrived on the island, I just marveled straight across the small footbridge into my accommodation. I ended up in a really beautiful resort: Bay Lestari Island Resort
The name from booking.com Dorm Private Island was actually quite good. I was completely alone in the accommodation and was greeted warmly with a delicious sweet drink.

The pretty bungalows are perfect for couples or families and very lovingly designed. Two bungalows are set up as mixed dorms – I slept there for only 45 RM (= 9.50 euros) per night. This is a wonderful alternative to relax in a beautiful resort for a few days for solo travelers or budget backpackers.

The resort is run by the lovely Rose, her children and other great staff from the island. I have never been so warmly welcomed on my trip. I was on Ramadan on the island and all the staff was fasting from sunrise to sunset. I was the only guest at that time and they invited me to a big meal every evening. At the end of the day I laid in my bed satisfied with a huge food baby. During the day they also cooked for me diligently and I was able to test new recipes for different desserts, because I was the only one who did not fast during the day! 😀 I tell you: #heavenonearth ♥

Pulau Besar | To do &. good to know

If you are a more active holidaymaker on this small island there is the option to dive from the jetty, snorkel along the reefs, kayak or go on a bike tour around the island. I can definitely recommend snorkeling – the water is so beautifully clear! In addition, I went on a jungle trekking tour from my resort and explored the island with another couple.

You can also simply hike along the only large island path and discover many small secret spots and lonely beaches. Nobody has to fight for a chair or a place under the parasol – there is absolute silence.
Even in the other resorts on the island, you will find delicious cocktails and varied food!

GOOD TO KNOW

• Be sure to bring insect repellent with you! Pulau Besar is a very tropical island and I was attacked by sand flies and mosquitoes on the first day.

• No ATMS! Think of enough cash for the activities or to pay for small snacks. In the resorts you can pay your final bill with a credit card, but enough cash is important for your stay.

• The reception with my local SIM-card was very good in most areas of the island and the WiFi in the resorts is also fast.

If you want to be pampered for a few days on a great little island and avoid crowds or just want to spend time for two (or like me alone for yourself :D), this is the place for you! #honeymoon #overload

Thank you dear team from Bayu Lestari Island Resort for your daily effort, all the food and your warmth!

Lots of Love ♥
